CLOSED EYES AND EARS

Isaiah 6:8-10

I also heard the voice of the Lord, saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go to this people?” Then I said, “Behold, here am I, send me.” So He said, “Go, and tell this people, ‘You shall hear indeed, but not understand; and you shall see indeed, but not perceive.’ For the heart of this people has become insensitive, and their ears hear with difficulty. They have closed their eyes, lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and return, and I should heal them.”

Personal Challenge

So often, the commentary on these verses focuses on Isaiah and his willingness to be sent. There is also a lot in the passage about the eyes and ears of Gods' people being blind and deaf to God's message. We need to ask ourselves if our eyes and ears have become blocked to His words. Have we shifted our worship to being performance to tickle the ears of the participants and dazzle them with the spectacle of brilliance? Does that mean that we are catering to the pleasures of man and not worshipping God? Are the things that we do in the name of Jesus done to make us feel or look good or are they done in silence so that God gets the glory? Everything that we do should glorify God and point others to Him. Anything else is acting with our eyes and ears closed. Lord, have mercy! Lord, have mercy! Lord, have mercy!
